Should organ donor rules be changed?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42282409

Thanks to Nicola who informed me about this story from the news this morning.

This is an important story and an issue which merits some discussion.

As Nicola rightly pointed out in her e mail to me, she posed the following question: what if people forget to opt out?

This is a real moral dilemma and one pertinent for Nurses to be, but is most definitely a real societal issue.

I look forward to your thoughts.

If there are any other news issues you think would be good for the blog, do let me know.

Mark

Life is a balancing act!

Good morning!

I was going to post something about time management and my cat Jet unwittingly provided the perfect photos to complement my point as I looked up and saw him peering down on me on one of the beams in the flat!

So, I would like to hear your thoughts on how you manage your time. Life has unquestionably changed for you all since starting this SWAP Access journey. New routines will now be in place, different struggles too arguably, but a worthwhile potentially life changing choice of course.

Are you a better time manager since you started your course? (Perhaps you have been forced into it).

Have you developed a new approach to time management?

What are your secrets to an already effective time management strategy?

I always encourage you to be 'reflective practitioners' as it is something I do constantly as an educator.

Get tapping on the keys below in the comments box!

Cheers,

Mark

Summary question feedback (reading)

Hello all,

Just a quick question on the summary question for reading assessment two.

Did you prefer having pointers to some of the things you could highlight this time around, or did you prefer the generic summarise the whole passage approach as per the first assessment?

I would be interested to hear your views.

Thanking you!

Reality Check: Why ban fast food within 400 metres of schools?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42172579

This is an article about a new strategy in London which recommends fast food outlets should not be allowed to open within 400 metres of schools.

It is interesting to note that a large number of students at this college often say to me that they wouldn't eat in the canteen, but would rather walk to the nearest burger van. I don't think this is anything new necessarily, but I wondered what you thought about this?

Do you think schools and colleges do enough to promote healthy food?

Are children educated enough about the importance of healthy food choices?

This further link identifies the issue of overweight youngsters too - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-42250152

As always, your comments count, whatever they may be.

As it is nearly the weekend, we are all allowed some treats aren't we? I have my mum up from Ayr tomorrow, and that can only mean plenty food, gin, vino etc. Oops, this seems to fly in the face of what I have noted above! Have a good one, whatever you are up to and I will see you all next Friday.

Cheers, Mark

We have hit the 1000 pageviews!

I'm astonished that we have now hit 1000 'reads' of our blog. That's fantastic and thank you for engaging with the content I post.

Let's make a concerted effort for more people to post. And don't forget, your opinion counts, whatever it may be!

Thanks again,

Mark

Reflection on the hangover at work assessment please

Hello loyal readers!

Now that we are in the final week for the first reading assessment, I would like you to write some feedback about the article, your performance, how you might approach the second assessment differently etc. These questions might help you form some sort of self-evaluation.

How did you feel doing the assessment in exam conditions?

Did you prepare enough?

What will you do differently next week?

What did you think about the subject matter of the article?

Any other comments?

I look forward to your comments - good, bad or indifferent!

Mark
