Summary question feedback (reading)

Hello all,

Just a quick question on the summary question for reading assessment two.

Did you prefer having pointers to some of the things you could highlight this time around, or did you prefer the generic summarise the whole passage approach as per the first assessment?

I would be interested to hear your views.

Thanking you!

  1. Hi Mark,
I actually enjoyed having something to work with, gave great pointers of the kind of information you were looking for. Was very surprised by this article 'you learn something new everyday'

  2. Yes, I guess any article will provide some sort of emotion, whether it be surprise, anger, a learning point, question the reader’s own standpoint etc. We might not always agree with the writer too and need to detach from those feelings when we analyse the text. I feel the summaries I have marked have benefitted from the signposting I provided and will be interested to see what other members of the parish think! Thanks for your comments. Mark

  3. Hi Mark,
I was taken aback when I saw the list compared to the 1st assessment. On the 1st assessment I had my own agenda (based on the question) of what I wanted to use and this time round I used the pointers you gave as a guide and also added to it.

  4. I felt it would be easier to focus all members of the class with some signposts to the key points as a guide. As a result, the summaries have been better this time around for sure.

    1. How did you find the clear links to specific areas of the text this time in terms of the summary Lorraine?

    2. I did find them good. I know i said i struggled to put pen to paper but once i started it wasn't so bad it just took me a little longer to get my head round this one. Like you say new day new prospective, fresh mind for tomorrow to hopefully finish the assesment.

  6. I am surprised you would say that, but if that is what you think, only you could articulate those thoughts I guess! Sometimes a new text, a new day, a different headspace can change things right enough. But the main thing to remember is this. Building on previous successes, listening to feedback and having a clear strategy normally means learners do at least as well the second time around. My theories by and large do prove to be correct when it comes to matters of assessment! See you Friday and dinna fret!
