Reflection on the hangover at work assessment please

Hello loyal readers!

Now that we are in the final week for the first reading assessment, I would like you to write some feedback about the article, your performance, how you might approach the second assessment differently etc. These questions might help you form some sort of self-evaluation.

How did you feel doing the assessment in exam conditions?

Did you prepare enough?

What will you do differently next week?

What did you think about the subject matter of the article?

Any other comments?

I look forward to your comments - good, bad or indifferent!

Mark

  1. I enjoyed doing the assessment on the effects of hangovers on the body. Next week I will be more thorough and ensure I've put in all info as to whom it's aimed at and also look at the language used etc. It wasn't very clear to me if it was a nurse who had written it or experienced it. I will be going in with an even finer tooth comb next week.

    Thanks.

    Hannah.

    1. Sounds like a solid strategy Hannah! Keep up the good work and you’ll be fine I’m sure. See you Friday.

  2. I actually enjoyed doing this assessment, and the artical was good. Although i went down a different route from everyone i think, i will try next time to remember and mention language and make sure i put more Quotes in where appropriate. I think for me taking my time is very important so i dont make sloppy mistakes so doing it over a couple of weeks works for me. So for the next one re-read what has been written, take my time as there is plenty. All in all i was pleased with what i achieved.

    1. Yes, steady as she goes is a good approach for you, and it works for you. It’s always (in theory) easier the second time around. New text, new headspace, hopefully the same result. See you Friday.

  3. i'm just going to read it twice like i did the last time and ensure i re-read all my answers to all the questions
The article i found interesting as i had never thought of all the other implications hangovers can have on the individual. It was an interesting read

    see you on Friday

    1. Thanks Steph. You just have to adopt the strategy which best suits your own learning style. It worked well for the first assessment. Cheers!

  4. I enjoyed the assessment and enjoy the quietness of exam conditions as this helps with my focus.
I looked over all the preparation notes you gave us and they were a great guide throughout the assessment and I plan on using them to their entirety again.
The subject matter was a good one and I'm sure there were different views on the article which is always interesting.
I can't promise I will do as well next time round but I will do as I did before and re-read the article until I fully understand it.

    1. I think even doing an assessment in 'controlled conditions' as the SQA call it, can be unusual for some, as it might have been a while since some of you have done so. Yes, the helpnotes are there for precisely that reason and will help with approaches to answering certainly. Well done and see you Friday for round two!

  5. Well as you know Mark I thoroughly enjoyed my assessment on 'Hangovers' I don't know if this was because I really enjoyed the read or if it was just because I could relate to a lot of the things in the article. ;) I will be coming into this assessment with the same strategies as last time
    - Reading and rereading the article
    - Highlighting parts that stand out to me or that I find of importance, to be used later on in the assessment ;)
    - Taking notes as I'm rereading to refer back too.
    - When writing the assessment I try to put myself in the writer and the readers shoes so I can get a better understanding.
Looking forward to tomorrow's assessment and will be coming in with positive calm thoughts!! haha...

    Cole :)

  6. Well if I was (still) a student, I’d be looking at this strategy and think that’s a pretty good idea! Hopefully everybody will do well again tomorrow and engage with the subject matter. Remember, three weeks to do it, if needed. Thanks for this comprehensive and very useful piece of reflection. Mark
