Life is a balancing act!

Good morning!

I was going to post something about time management and my cat Jet unwittingly provided the perfect photos to complement my point as I looked up and saw him peering down on me on one of the beams in the flat!

So, I would like to hear your thoughts on how you manage your time. Life has unquestionably changed for you all since starting this SWAP Access journey. New routines will now be in place, different struggles too arguably, but a worthwhile potentially life changing choice of course.

Are you a better time manager since you started your course? (Perhaps you have been forced into it).

Have you developed a new approach to time management?

What are your secrets to an already effective time management strategy?

I always encourage you to be 'reflective practitioners' as it is something I do constantly as an educator.

Get tapping on the keys below in the comments box!

Cheers,

Mark

  1. Morning Mark,
Loving the cat. Time management can be difficult depending on what you have going on in your life especially on this course. Back at the start we were asked to fill out time management timetables for ourselves and at the time we all probably came up with something but have stuck to it? I tend to manage my time from week to week so I can manage my course work and any other activities I have that week which seems to work well for me but it is still stressful making sure that you make that time.

    1. Well, at least you have a strategy in place and hopefully that is working for you. I like to make sure all students I teach are crystal clear when assessments are, how long they have to do them, with sufficient preparation time and finally with sample answers to help them. It takes up a lot of my own time, but I am more than happy to put that work in as the formula works. The skills are also ones which can very helpful in other areas of the curriculum, whoever I am teaching. Thanks for your words.

  2. yeah i try and stick to the timetable that we drew up at the start with adaptations here and there. I am finding at this stage there are more and more adaptations needed to be made as there are more assessments needing to be handed in or be done before Christmas so time management is crucial and with 4 girls in the house sometimes its difficult but so far so good.

    1. I'm mightily impressed your time management is so good Lorraine. It sounds like time isn't necessarily at a premium for you! But just having some sort of strategy, whether it needs to be adapted, is in fact really important. I'm glad you have signposted at the end there that things are going well for you. We are still a long way from the finishing line, but everybody is working hard and showing lots of determination to succeed which is great from an educator's point of view. Thanks for your feedback as always.

  3. 1 i just want to say my two cats would absolutely love them beams lol.

    2. i'm like Lorraine. I sit here taking my 5 minutes out of studying to quickly refresh myself on the blog. Mainly because my mind is drawing a blank.
I've managed to sit here from half 6 tonight battering my keys to get stuff finished but i'm really strict on myself when it comes to time management. On college nights i sit from 7 - 9 and study and then on the other days from 7 till 10. if i feel i need more then i add an extra hour here and there but i always make sure i am doing that at least.
As i'm quite critical of myself if i don't get that in then it mucks my week up.
Time management is a must for me !!!!!

Out with studying i'm still the same and if anything cause it to run over then i do tend to be stressed. I've always been the same

    1. Thanks Steph. Aye, he does like the fact it’s open plan with plenty places to climb and jump from. There are perfectly good stairs...

I’m sure the amount of hours you put in to your studies will be the envy of many of your peers. This is impressive as it is incredibly difficult to make that time commitment with all the things we have to contend with in our lives these days. I do think it’s good to have some sort of structured approach when it comes to learning, if time permits. Well done and thanks for your input. It may well provide some food for thought for other members of the class. Cheers.
