Lollipop man 'banned from high-fiving kids because it could be construed as grooming' vows to never return despite emotional pleas from pupils

I missed this story the first time around. Is this a case of implementing stringent child safety protection values or is this a huge overreaction?

  1. This really saddens me that such a humble and helpful man doing his job could be painted in this light. What is the world coming to !! I can fully understand how this poor man must be feeling after understandably building up a friendly relationship with the kids from seeing them twice a day before and after school. I can understand why people need to be careful as it is their kids at stake but honestly whatever next.!!

  2. Does this mean that the parents of Barry White Junior’s pupils will be upset too? From the info. that I’ve read, it seems crazy that he’s no longer in post.

  3. It is a real shame that this poor man has been made to feel like a criminal. I appreciate parents having concerns for their children too but it is definitely an overreaction. My husband did this job for a while and the council (won't state which one) sent him and others on a training course of do's and don'ts which primarily consisted of don'ts; don't look at the child or make eye contact, do not touch to guide them across the road, do not strike a conversation, do not shout or alert a child (even if they are doing something wrong i.e carrying on in the road) these instances were to be reported directly to the school. You may only speak to a child if an adult is present and the list goes on and on, but at the same time he were to preserve their safety. It is an awful position to be put in these days.
