After reading the article I can see why they would want to encourage this as they believe it will give people another option rather than cigarettes. There is nothing worse than arriving at the entrance of the hospital and having to walk through the cloud of smoke and smell to get through the door, even though there are signs on the entrance to the hospital that state "this is a no smoking area"? I never could understand why people are still smoking? I am probably rather bias as I am a non smoker, but have you ever walked behind someone with one of those vape's? a few times I have choked and coughed so hard with the amount of smoke that is released from them. If this were to be a thing and they truly believed that it will help it would be good, as suggested that they have a designated smoking area within the grounds away from the front door of the hospital. At the bottom of the article is another good one relating to why scientists can't agree on the risks that vary between smoking and vaping https://www.theguardian.com/science/sifting-the-evidence/2016/sep/14/why-cant-scientists-agree-on-e-cigarettes-vaping
Today I was walking to the railway station and was choked by a plume of vape smoke, leading to a near slip situation. It was like being on an ice rink with a smoke machine going off!
We were actually discussing this topic in Health Promotion class the other week. While alternatives to smoking should be encouraged, not enough is yet known about the long term effects of vaping. I have been trying for the past 7 years to encourage my husband to give up the cigs and i'd be happy for him to try vaping, however I'm not sure that they should be available with medical recommendation due to the lack of knowledge about it.

ReplyDeleteAgreed. The lack of info and proper research is a factor. But I’m reasonably sure the alternative is safer than smoking potentially!
