How Iceland persuaded teens to give up drink and drugs

Iceland used to have a big teenage smoking, drinking and drug problem. Now it doesn't.

This is how it made the change. Let me know your thoughts.

  1. I read something similar to this a while ago and I think it is a great idea. When I was younger I had a curfew, I may not have liked it but I stuck to it if I knew what was good for me. Done me no harm. I am very lucky as my children do not and never have caused me any trouble but there are a lot of our children in this country out doing all sorts of crimes and being lead astray. I think a few more countries could benefit from Iceland's ways. The woman says they are a boring country but I don't think so, wise maybe?

  2. I myself had to be in by a certain time of the evening and if I wasn’t there had to be a good excuse for it. I have never been in bother with the police or caused anyone else bother when out and about in town in my youth or even now come to think of it. My two children are exactly the same, they know when to be home and know right from wrong, I’ve never had trouble with them at school for being naughty or bad mannered and im always complemented on how well behaved and nice they are which make me feel very proud. I think other countries should take a look at their own statistics and maybe try to learn a little something from Iceland, who knows it might work.

  3. I think this is a fab idea i think teenagers today do far more things than what we did or were aloud to do. Not all teenagers are like this not going to tar them all with the same brush. I have four Girls and two of them are teenagers and as Darleen said i to have not had any issues with my girls and i also am complimented on there manners and politeness. I think Hamilton alone would benefit from this approach, an example i went to Iceland in Hamilton town center on monday at 4.30 and wondered why the car park shutters were down so i proceeded to go in the exit instead as it was open i just assumed it was broken, then i asked a member of staff they advised me to move my car as they were closing the car park because a group of youth were running over cars and jumping on them and they were to scared to challenge them, i think that is ridiculous behavior.

    1. How ironic that this misbehavior should happen on the premises of an Iceland! Some good points raised by all.
